Twenty2 (1997-2007)

Montreal-based Twenty2 has announced that after ten years as a band, they’ve broken up. They had this to say in a blog on MySpace:

Hey there. We are pulling the plug on Twenty2. No specific reason except that we are moving on to other things. We will let you know what that is very soon. As it stands now, we will be doing 2 final shows, probably in October, just for fun. They will be free shows, a good reason to get together & have a good time with friends & say our goodbyes.

Just so there are no false rumors starting or anything: No one in the band hates each other, we’re as good friends as we ever were. There are no drug addicts or alcoholics. No one joined the army. No one joined a cult. No one’s dying. No one got in a fight with another band member. We just all agreed it was time to move on. It’s been a lot of fun for the most part, it just never got to the level we hoped it would, but no biggie.

The band last released Defective in 2006.

Capdown (1997 – 2007)

CapdownThe UK’s brightest ska-punks in Capdown have decided to call it quits after ten years together. The band, which hails from Milton Keynes, have confirmed that their October tour will be the last for the band.

We are now formally announcing that the band will not be continuing to work together as Capdown after the October 2007 tour. After completing our last, and best, album in 2007, we have all decided that we want to explore other experiences in life, outside the band unit.

The band released Wind Up Toys this year, the latest in a long string of solid albums and EPs including Pound for the Sound, New Revolutionaries, Civil Disobedients and a split with the East Bay’s Link 80.

Final tourdates can be found below.

Rivers Cuomo (Weezer) shopping his memoirs

According to Gawker, Weezer frontman Rivers Cuomo is apparently pitching his memoirs via a literary agent. The Harvard grad formed Weezer in 1992 and sold quite a few records.

The folks at Gawker weren’t particularly kind to the songwriter noting:

if they’re anything like the rest of his creative output, [they’ll have] started out world-changingly awesome and then became so lame they make Pete Wentz seem profound.

Despite that site’s derision, the band is working on their next full length and follow up to Make Believe.

The Steal: ‘The Steal’

The Steal About a year ago, a promising UK-based melodic hardcore act called the Steal released their full-length to great reviews. Now, just as they are about to embark on a U.S. tour, the band has finally found a home in North America for the record and to coincide with both the tour and this long-awaited domestic release, we’ve got a full album stream of the entire thing.

Here’s the short version: if you like a band that is equally influenced by Kid Dynamite, Descendents and Gorilla Biscuits you’ll like this. We reviewed the record last year, so you can see what our review said here: The Steal.

You can check out the album on their Punknews.org Profile.

Dr.Frank’s (Mr.T.Experience) second novel due in January

Random House has set a January 08, 2008 release date for the second novel from Mr. T Experience‘s Frank Portman. The book is titled Andromeda Klein and is his follow up to the award nominated novel, King Dork. Last year, the book was optioned for a film by Will Ferrel.

According to the publisher:

Andromeda Klein is a quiet, booky girl with an unexciting life. Until her world takes a turn for the weird.

Omens, dreams, cards hidden inside a hollowed out book, and images from a file of comics drawn by a previous inhabitant of her family’s suburban duplex are all coming together to contain hints of buried truths concerning her family, her circle of “friends,” her cat, and her secret, estranged, much older and forbidden boyfriend-in-theory.

King Dork was released in the UK just this week. Frank “Dr.Frank” Portman was (and sometimes is) the ringleader of Oakland pop-punk outfit The Mr. T Experience
