“Goddamnit” reissue launches myspace page, includes Brendan Kelly’s introduction

An official myspace page has been launched for the highly anticipated reissue of Alkaline Trio‘s beloved debut full length, Goddamnit. Originally released in 1998, the album will be reissued in a remixed and remastered format and packaged with a new DVD titled Original Sin: The Story of Goddamnit. It is expected in 2008, ten years after the original release.

The DVD also includes a live performance from the band, and includes liner notes from Brendan Kelly of the Lawrence Arms, Matt Skiba of Alkaline Trio and Mike Park of Asian Man Records. You can read a bit of Brendan’s commentary on the album here. Here’s a taste:

You know that feeling of having wasted your life? I’m not talking about looking back to faded, half-rembmered olden days from some wrinkly shell. I’m referring to waking up and thinking ‘Woah, last night was a complete blur, I made a real dick of myself in front of that girl I can’t stop thinking about and barfed in the sink at the bar. I’m wasting my life. What’s wrong with me?’ That’s wasting your life. Little moments that swirl, fade and descend into obscurity, never to be retrieved.

Asian Man Records selling rare test pressings

While this breaks the unspoken rule about advertising “sales” that we have here at the Org, this seems like the kind of thing a lot of you (Richard) would be into. Mike Park and his crack team of cute babies are selling off test pressings of albums, singles, splits and EPs. Of note are copies of the Broadways’ Big City 7″, Alkaline Trio’s Halloween 7″ and Maybe I’ll Catch Fire 12″ as well as a whole host of releases from the Bruce Lee Band, Duvall, MU330, Link 80 and more. You can check out the whole list here.

Hell Is for Heroes bid farewell to the road

London’s Hell Is For Heroes announced plans to make their current ongoing tour their last, at least for the foreseeable future. That doesn’t mean the group is necessarily calling it quits though:

Our forthcoming hop around the UK will be our last full length stint on the road before the reunion tour in 2037. We’re up for spending more time at home working on other projects and potentially a fourth album if we can beat our last effort. Plus we reckon 7 years in the van is a fair stretch by any standards. Just like the Beatles after Rubber Soul, its hallucinogenics and concept albums from here on. In the meantime, as usual, expect the unforgettable.

There’s a week, give or take, left on the tour. The band released Transmit Disrupt in 2006 via Burning Heart.

MP3 of the Week: Dave House (The Steal) / Junius / Crosstown Rivals

Justin: Dave House of the promising young UK hardcore outfit the Steal has posted his two solo outings for streaming on his MySpace page. The albums are titled See That No One Else Escapes and Kingston’s Current. The albums are available from Banquet Records and are self described as being in the vein of Billy Bragg, the Weakerthans and Death Cab for Cutie. It’s hard to argue against that description. The title track from Kingston’s Current features an instant sing-a-long while the track “In This Machine” bursts forth with an electronic backdrop straight from the Postal Service’s cutting room floor. There’s yet to be a US release, but with two solid albums under his belt I can’t imagine it will be long.

Brian: To be quite honest, I wasn’t huge on Junius‘s Blood Is Bright EP when first receiving it close to two years ago. However, with the band beginning to heavily eschew the new wave / post-punk textures that resulted in so many comparisons to the Cure and Joy Division, the band straight blew me away opening for frequent tourmates Circle Takes the Square this past week in Brooklyn. Think Jupiter-era Cave In, but more atmospheric and dissonant and with a lesser reliance upon guttural screams, tempered with the band’s earlier influences. Check out some music from a compilation of their first two EPs as well as their recently released 7″, the epic The Fires of Anteiluvia.

Ben: Crosstown Rivals have been a part of east coast Canada’s punk scene for a number of years. Tonight the band will be playing their last show in Fredericton, New Brunswick. While they didn’t ever break through into the national spotlight, they did offer themselves as a fairly consistent act in a town that hasn’t always drawn touring acts. They played simple pop punk, and while that may no longer be where current tastes lie, it’s always nice to fall back on. Check out ‘Wellington St.’ on the bands MySpace page.

The Mighty Mighty Bosstones to Play Jimmy Kimmel Live with caveats

In perhaps the most overdue performance ever, The Mighty Mighty Bosstones have been scheduled to appear on Jimmy Kimmel Live!. Overdue, of course, because of frontman Dicky Barrett’s prominent role on the program since 2004.

The band was scheduled to appear on November 13th, but the likely writer’s strike will likely jeopardize the airing. Most sources are pointing to a November 5th strike date which will affect most scripted television, including the current event-oriented Kimmel show.

Rolling Stone assembles “The Indie Rock Universe” with Fall Out Boy, F*cked Up, Boredoms, Against Me

Rolling Stone has put together a neat little feature called “The Indie Rock Universe.” The article purports to shine a light on any number of subgenres in the “indie rock” scene, from “Ancestral Planets” like Fugazi, Nirvana, Pixies, to “Spazmodica” like Les Savy Fav and Parts & Labor to the “Angry Red Planet” of Against Me! and Ted Leo to “Mall-Deraan” of Fall Out Boy and Paramore.

Along with some weird paintings denoting each “planet” each representative band includes streaming music so it’s actually not a terrible way to find something if you like it. Unfortunately, there is no “art history grad to english” translation, so you’ll just have to guess that “East Accordionica” means Gogol Bordello.

You can find it here.
