Good Riddance not likely to release live DVD

The presence of a film crew at Good Riddance‘s final shows last year led many to speculate about a final, posthumous DVD release from the defunct California band. However, this remains fairly unlikely, according to the band:

A group of people we know did in fact film the entire show with several cameras. They are prepared to render the footage should anyone with a decent vision come forward with the means to produce and release a live DVD (FAT decided they didn’t want to release a DVD). We (the band members) aren’t in a position to deal with the headache of producing and releasing a DVD so, for now, the footage is just sitting in someone’s garage or something.

The band is, however, planning a 31-song live album which is expected in March.

Fox Chicago discovers the “Emo Backlash”

In what is probably an attempt to prove that they are “with it” and “totally not squares,” the enterprising journalists at Fox Chicago have assembled an unintentionally humorous look at the “emo backlash.”

The piece mainly focuses on how the “emo kids” are being picked on for their beliefs. You can check out the video here.

Nancy Spungen documentary be be made

According to a report from The Journal, a Newcastle-based film producing company has been given some investment to go towards an upcoming documentary titled Who Killed Nancy?.

The film will focus on Nancy Spungen, the ill-fated girlfriend of notorious Sex Pistol Sid Vicious, and the circumstances that led to her death. In 1986, director Alex Cox producers a fictionalized documentary of those events in the critically acclaimed film, Sid & Nancy. Though the film was well-received by critics, John Lydon had harsh words for the film noting:

To me this movie is the lowest form of life. I honestly believe that it celebrates heroin addiction. It definitely glorifies it at the end when that stupid taxi drives off into the sky. That’s such nonsense. The squalid New York hotel scenes were fine, except they needed to be even more squalid. All of the scenes in London with the Pistols were nonsense. None bore any sense of reality

The chap who played Sid, Gary Oldman, I thought was quite good. But even he only played the stage persona as opposed to the real person. I don’t consider that Gary Oldman’s fault because he’s a bloody good actor. If only he had the opportunity to speak to someone who knew the man. I don’t think they ever had the intent to research properly in order to make a seriously accurate movie. It was all just for money, wasn’t it? To humiliate somebody’s life like that – and very successfully – was very annoying to me.

The final irony is that I still get asked questions about it. I have to explain that it’s all wrong. It was all someone else’s fucking fantasy, some Oxford graduate who missed the punk rock era. The bastard.

No word on whether the producers, Ipso Facto Films will be consulting with Mr.Lydon this time.

Trustkill boss responds to Hopesfall; alleges drug use behind break up

Trustkill founder and president Josh Grabelle recently spoke out about the accusations made about him when Hopesfall split up. The band accused Grabelle of putting them into debt and ripping off the band.

In the latest Ryan’s Rock Show podcast, Grabelle responded to the allegations noting:

[HOPESFALL drummer Jason Trabue] does not speak a shred of truth. I heard those guys got into some pretty hardcore drugs…and they are just miserable.

The band released four albums through the label before the rather public shakeup. The most recent (and final album) was 2007’s Magnetic North.
