Rise Against plans European release of “This Is Noise” with more content

Rise Against has announced plans to release their recent rarities EP, This Is Noise in Europe and the UK. Frontman Tim McIlrath explained:

Good news for our European and UK fans, our b-sides and rarities EP “This Is Noise” is finally being released in Germany, the UK, Switzerland, and Italy on April 7th and in Austria on April 11th.This version differs slightly from our North American release and will feature alternate artwork and additional material.

The European release will feature seven tracks unlike the 5-song North American version. The new material includes live versions of “State of the Union” and “Like the Angel” and substitutes an acoustic “Everchanging” for Lifetime’s “Boy’s No Good” as well as dropping Black Flag’s “Fix Me” but adding Minor Threat’s eponymous song.

The release coincides with the band’s touring plans which include US Warped Tour performance dates. These dates will be preceded by shows in Europe including the Download Festival in England (with the Offspring and Motorhead among others) followed by the Greenfield Festival in Switzerland, and both the Hurricane and Southside Festivals in Germany.

Thursday talks about upcoming Envy split

Thursday has posted some comments about their upcoming split with Envy that was announced yesterday. The band noted:

It’s our pleasure to announce a split release with one of our favorite bands in the world. We are currently in the studio recording tracks for a 12″ release with Japan’s Envy. For those of you unfamiliar with Envy, they are an experimental, epic, lush post-rock band that’s heavier than just about anything we’ve ever heard. Despite the enormous geographical distances between us, the bands have evolved from the same thrashy underground post-hardcore scene (They’ve toured the states and shared stages with our friends in Malady and Hot Cross). Honestly, there’s no way to properly describe them.

The record is due out in the Fall and will be released as an LP+CD set only.

Simonon talks art exhibit, lack of Clash reunion

A new interview with artist and The Good, The Bad and The Queen-contributor Paul Simonon discusses that late Clash frontman Joe Strummer had been considering a Clash reunion for their induction into the Rock’n’Roll Hall of Fame.

According to the story:

The day before Strummer died, he sent Paul Simonon a text message. It said, ‘Come on, Paul. Give it a try. You might even like it.’ Strummer was referring to a possible reunion of the Clash for a one-off gig to celebrate their imminent induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Simonon, though, was having none of it. ‘Joe was up for it, and so was Mick and Topper [Headon, the Clash’s drummer], but I wasn’t,’ he says, without a trace of regret. ‘I was the one who always said no. In this instance, I really didn’t believe it was the right moment. A big corporate event like that, two grand a seat. Nah, that wasn’t in the spirit of the Clash, was it?’

In the end, he went to the Hall of Fame ceremony to celebrate Joe Strummer’s legacy and to support his widow, Lucinda. ‘I wasn’t comfortable, though,’ he adds. ‘I just hate all those bloody awards ceremonies. There’s too many of them and they really don’t mean a lot to me. It’s that looking back thing again. It’s not what the Clash were ever about, and it’s not what I’m about.’

The interview also discusses Paul’s imminent art show, where his work is expected to fetch in excess of £30,000 (59,443.23 US) each. You can check it out here.

The band has grasped what exactly it is they’re best at and what their fans want from them, which are coincidently the same thing […] a fantastic return to form from a band that I miss rocking out to in my (friend’s) car in the (high) school parking lot.

Weezer sets date, title for new album

Weezer has set a release date and title for their forthcoming full length and sixth studio album. As far as a name, the band has opted to self-title the record for the third time (Your move, Bronx?)

The album is due out June 17, 2008 and was produced by Rick Rubin (Beastie Boys, (International) Noise Conspiracy, Slayer). Frontman Rivers Cuomo noted:

The album is meaty, crunchy and melodic like a good Weezer album should be.

The album is the follow-up to Make Believe which was released in 2005 and spawned that “Beverly Hills” single.
