April Fools!

April Fools folks. Once again we joined everyone else online who thinks their clever and fabricated a handful of really obvious lies to tell you this morning. So everything from around 8 am EST until noon was completely bogus. We decided not to pull back the curtain until now for the sake of our time-zonally challenged friends on the west coast. Everything posted from noon forward today is legit, Specials reunion included.

A big thank you goes to the Gaslight Anthem, Cancer Bats and Fake Problems for playing along. Thanks in advance to Dillinger Four, Anti-Flag and the Boss for not getting angry. The bands in this mornings New Music Roundup, however, can go fuck themselves.

Terry Hall confirms Specials reunion tour in the works

UK ska legends The Specials will reunite for a tour later in the year. Frontman Terry Hall spoke to the BBC on Sunday. Hall commented:

Well we’re still trying to put dates together, but hopefully September/ October time. We need to spend the Summer rehearsing… I think it’s taken me 30 years to realise we could do it really well.

Can the band relive past glories without descending into parody? Hall stated “you do it with dignity or don’t do it at all,” citing the Pixies reunion and a recent Patti Smith performance of Horses as examples. There’s no word on how that applies to the band’s late 90s revival, nor is there a confirmation on the band’s line up for this year’s shows.

Hall and rhythm guitarist Lynval Golding made a surprise appearance together at last year’s Glastonbury Festival, their first apperance together in 24 years. The pair appeared with Lily Allen to perform “Gangsters” and with Damon Albard of Blur and The Good, the Bad and the Queen to perform “A Message To You, Rudy.”

April Fools: Dillinger Four (finally) outline details for “C I V I L W A R”

Dillinger FourDillinger Four has finally unveiled details for their anxiously awaited upcoming album C I V I L W A R. The album will be twelve tracks long, with equally long song titles. According to the band:

We’re not breaking a lot of new ground with this album, to be sure. Expect more of our whiskey soaked melodies with poorly recorded vocals and hilarious song titles. At this point we have no clue what to expect as a reaction except that kids on the internet just “filled the cup.” Whatever that means.

C I V I L W A R is the first album since their 2002 opus Situationist Comedy. The spirit is still alive however as evidenced by song titles such as “BitTorrent at 33rpm,” “Relapsed Alcatholic” and “The Kids Will Eat This Shit Up.”

Fat has confirmed these details and that they’ll be gearing up for a late summer headlining tour with the Arrivals, Bloodbath and Beyond, Off With Their Heads and the rarely seen Cleveland Bound Death Sentence.

April Fools: Fake Problems run into Real Problems on Anti-Flag tour

Floridian troublemakers Fake Problems have been asked to leave their current tour with Anti-Flag. The whole fiasco started at the tour’s stop in Dallas, TX last night when Fake Problems vocalist/guitarist Chris Farren began criticizing the headlining band’s views on America’s involvement in the war in Iraq, calling vocalist Justin Sane a “freedom hater.” Apparently, the feud was thought to be resolved until later in the evening when Fake Problems bassist Derek Perry proceeded to give Anti-Flag’s Chris #2 an impromptu haircut, essentially clipping off the entire mohawk. Upon waking and discovering his new hairstyle, Chris #2 immediately came to blows with Perry during breakfast at a roadside Chicken and Waffles restaurant, where Anti-Flag management determined the two bands could no longer tour together and informed Fake Problems they were no longer welcome.

Derek Perry commented:

This is absurd. How better to “up that punx” than to upend their haircuts? I thought I was making my own social statement. Chris #2 obviously doesn’t appreciate the value of a free trim.

No word on who will be replacing Fake Problems for the remaining dates.

April Fools: The Gaslight Anthem to tour as backing band for Bruce Springsteen

NJ-based The Gaslight Anthem will be touring with fellow New Jersey musician and icon Bruce Springsteen. The band will be taking the place of Springsteen’s long standing backing band the E-Street Band for a string of select dates along the east coast. The tour kicks off on January 5, 2009 at the famous Stone Pony in Asbury Park, NJ.

Though the planned shows will consist almost entirely of Springsteen’s classic catalog, we’ve received word that the Boss himself has been working with Brian Fallon in an effort to incorporate a few of the Gaslight Anthem’s tracks into the set, mainly those referring to the act of dancing, or females named Maria. We’ll keep you updated on more specific details and dates as they become available.

This isn’t the first time The Boss has worked with bands. Arcade Fire joined him on stage at a number of shows in 2007. Meanwhile, hip hop star Nelly has also expressed a desire to work with Springsteen.

The Gaslight Anthem is currently holed-up in a studio in Los Angeles, working on their SideOneDummy debut, and follow-up to this year’s Sabot Productions EP, Señor and the Queen. Bruce Sprinsteen continues to tour in support of last year’s LP, Magic.

April Fools: Cancer Bats pressured to change name, conducting poll

Toronto, Canada’s Cancer Bats have recently announced plans to change their name in a response to pressure from upcoming tour sponsor PETA. The band says that while they thought they may always get pressure from someone to change their name, they never thought it would come from animal rights groups.

In a blog entry dated March 31, the band explained

It turns out that the people over at PETA, who are sponsoring our next tour, have been getting a lot of complaints about our name. Some people feel that linking cancer to bats gives bats a bad rap – guilty by association I guess.

So we’ve decided to change our name. Don’t worry, we’re still going to sound as raw and sweet as we do now, we just need to put a different stamp on it, you know? But we want your input. We have a list of four names we’ve been throwing around the board room (back of the van). Post on our wall what you think the best name is, or post your own idea.

The four names in consideration are: Navy Blue Jays, Bi Polar Bears, Cobrock Snakes, Army Aunts.

PETA spokesperson Eileen Manderson commented, stating that

PETA is very excited to be sponsoring Cancer Bats on their upcoming tour. Hail Destroyer is a great album and we are proud to stand behind it as we attempt to reach out to more people. I’m a hippie. Furthermore, we are very pleased that the band has been so willing to change their name after realizing the toll the name “Cancer Bats” has taken on the winged species. We hope to work with other bands, such as AIDS Wolf in the future.

Cancer Bats, or Coborock Snakes, are getting ready to release their second album, Hail Destroyer on April 22.
