Ruiner plans EP compilation

Bridge 9 has announced that Ruiner will soon be releasing I Heard These Dudes Are Assholes, a compilation of the band’s EPs and demos due out on September 30th. The 14-song collection will feature the What Could Possibly Go Right… EP (previously released in various forms on Grave Mistake and 1917 records), the band’s split 7″ with Day Of The Dead (from Portugal) and the band’s original demos.

The entire set has been remastered by Nick Zampiello at New Alliance (Converge, Have Heart, Hope Conspiracy).

The Thermals debut two new demos

Portland-based The Thermals, who dominated year-end lists in 2006 with their album, The Body, The Blood, The Machine, have posted the first two demos from their forthcoming album.

The tracks, “I Let It Go” and “You Dissolve,” are set to appear on their new record, Now We Can See and you can check them out on their Myspace page.

The band parted ways with the latest of its drummers in March.

Max Bemis paints Punknews.org with one brush

Normally, we try to avoid self-referential/naval gazing-type stories like this one, but Max Bemis of Say Anything has shared some angry words directed at all of you for the small percentage of you who objected to his custom songwriting project.

Max explains:

Another thing that actually OFFENDS me, which is hard to to these days, are the people who are pissed that musicians make money. The strange, slow, old people on punknews.org and the few annoying stragglers on this website.

It is worth noting that the concept of making money was never a point of objection in the comments on Punknews.org, but some people objected to the notion of for-hire songwriting and the fact that the subject matter of songs was coming from paying customers rather than Max himself.

Lemonheads cover GG Allin, Wire, Leonard Cohen, Christina Aguilera on new album

The Lemonheads have announced plans to release a new covers album titled Varshons. Due out September 13, 2008, the 11-track album was produced by Cornershop’s Anthony Safferty and Butthole Surfers frontman Gibby Haynes.

It will feature a variety of tracks from GG Allin, Wire, Leonard Cohen, Christina Aguilera, Fuckemos and more. Guest performances include vocals from actress Liv Tyler on Leonard Cohen’s “Hey, That’s No Way To Say Goodbye,” and model Kate Moss guests on Arling & Cameron’s “Dirty Robot.”

Past Lives (Blood Brothers, Shoplifting) release EP with Suicide Squeeze

Past Lives, which features Jordan Blilie, Morgan Henderson and Mark Gajadhar of Blood Brothers alongside former Shoplifting guitarist Devin Welch, have teamed up with Suicide Squeeze for the distributing of their debut EP Strange Symmetry. You can currently buy the five song EP straight from the band and Suicide Squeeze will be releasing the CD, LP and digital versions on November 4th.

The band has a few upcoming shows, including an appearance at the Fuck Yeah fest in LA. The dates are below.

Bob Mould planning 2009 “Guitar” album

Bob Mould has announced his plans to release a new “guitar” album in early 2009. Mould very simple states:

Yes, it is a guitar album.
Yes, it will be released by Anti- in the US.
Yes, it is set for a February 2009 release.
Yes, there will be band touring next spring.

It will be the followup to Mould’s well recieved March release, District Line.

I Set My Friends on Fire: “But The Nuns Are Watching” + “Crank That, v2.0”

Electro-grind/hardcore act I Set My Friends on Fire have posted a new track from their upcoming full length debut for Epitaph. The record is titled You Can’t Spell Slaughter Without Laughter and is due out October 07, 2008.

Along with the new track, the band has posted a new studio-recorded version of their death metallified MySpace hit cover of “Crank That” by Soulja Boy.

Red Scare announces third Red October

Red Scare Chairman Tobias Jeg has posted a communique informing us unwashed masses about the upcoming 3rd Annual Red October. This year’s celebration of the young label will feature The Falcon, The Methadones, The Sidekicks, and Chicago locals Rule 22 performing at subterranean on October 18th. Free Red Scare beer steins will be passed out to attendees and there’s potentially a second day in the works but no details on that.
