Rhino has announced plan to release a new hits compilation covering The Smiths. The record is titled The Sound of the Smiths and is due out November 11, 2008. Of particular note is the involvement of songwriters Morrissey and Johnny Marr who both contributed to the track selection, remastering and artwork.

Ben Nichols, lead vocalist of Memphis’ own Lucero, has released a new 7-song solo EP to coincide with his ongoing run on the Revival Tour with Tim Barry, Chuck Ragan and Tom Gabel. The EP is based around the novel, Blood Meridian by Cormac McCarthy. Ben is selling the CD (and instant download) via the Lucero Website.

Tom Morello and his solo act, The Nightwatchman, have announced a national tour in support of their new full length. The record is titled The Fabled City and is due out today. Morello, also of Rage Against the Machine, is promising that the tour will feature both acoustic and full-band sets. The 11-song album, produced by Brendan O’Brien (Bruce Springsteen, Pearl Jam), is the first release to bear the political and social activist’s birth name and features appearances by System of a Down’s Serj Tankian and Shooter Jennings.
