Landmines in search of new drummer, detail plans for 2009

Richmond, VA-based Landmines are looking for a new drummer. The band is currently writing the follow-up to their 2008 debut, Landmines, and has parted ways with their last replacement drummer. The band is planning to record this Spring, and tour the U.S., Canada and Europe.

So here we are, finding ourselves yet again without a drummer. We’ve been looking fairly intently in our small circle of friends with no luck, so here we are, sending a message into the great abyss we call the internet.

Basically, we’ve got a lot of shit we’re looking forward to this year. We’re going to record another record real soon, we’ve got a couple real fun tours lined up including Canada and Europe. We’ve been writing a lot, which is harder than we thought without a drummer.

Houston Calls boots guitarist

Houston Calls has kicked out guitarist Jose Lopez. The band explained the move:

Our good “friend” Jose has decided to shack up with my (Tom) ex-girlfriend immediately after she broke my heart and left me. The two hid it from me for weeks over christmas and only until yesterday when I had to find out was I informed. Great guy! Stand up guy! Well to put it bluntly he’s out of the band for good and hopefully lives a terrible life forever. I don’t know what’s going to happen yet but I’ll be sure to keep everyone informed.

The band is still planning to hit the road at the end of January with Valencia.

Anthony Raneri of Bayside responds to “Biggest Flops of 2008”

Bayside‘s Anthony Raneri has responded to the “Biggest Flops of 2008” list which we posted last week. Anthony notes:

Less then 1% of all records that are made in the world sell more then 1,000 copies. An album that sells 200,000 copies makes the label between 1 million dollars and 1.4 million dollars. So now imagine calling an album that sells 700k copies a flop. If you can’t turn a profit on that, then it’s probably not the bands fault for “only” selling 200k. Maybe it’s time for a new business model.

Bands on major labels usually need to sell about 500k or more copies of their record before they get paid from their album sales, which only about 25 albums of the hundreds of thousands that come out actually do. Standard rates to the people that help a band function is 15% to a manager, 10% to an agent, 5% to a business manager, 15% of your merch to the club and if you have a 360 deal, 15%-30% to your label. .

Deryck Whibley to produce The Audition

Deryck Whibley of Sum 41 will be sitting in the producer’s chair for the next album from The Audition. According to a Rock Sound report, the band had this to say:

We talked to a bunch of producers before we got hooked up with Deryck from Sum 41. We hit it off instantly, he has a totally different outlook than any other producer we have worked with, he is really all about song writing and making sure all the songs are ready and that we have taken our time to put everything into them.

The Audition released Champion last year. Sum 41 released Underclass Hero, a Japan-only greatest hits collection and are planning a new EP soon.
