Methadones members form the Neutron Bombs

Pete Mittler of the The Methadones and the The Bomb, along with former Methadones guitarist Ken Ortman (also of Batallion of Saints A.D. and Beer Goggles), and drummer Colin Tahi of Boys On Trial, have formed a new band dubbed the the Neutron Bombs. Four songs from the Chicago act are online new at MySpace. Ken commented on the tunes:

So… we taped this stuff at band practice 12/18/08. The basement was cold, and so were we. By the time we got warmed up enough to bash through the songs without sounding like hell, I had pretty much blown out my voice… so I cheated and re-recorded the vocals the next day. Alas… enough of the old vocals bled thru on the mic we used for drums (yes – one mic for the drums) so the vocals are essentially doubled. That’s just from trying to make something usable out of what we recorded. I’m sure we will record better stuff in the future… especially when we hit a proper studio. As you can tell, I’m no audio engineer by any stretch of the imagination! I’m hoping that we do some real studio recordings in January.

None More Black has entered 2009 with a lineup change. The band’s long time drummer Jared Shavelson has left the band. Bassist Paul Delaney commented:

He shared the most time with us, and is possibly one of the best drummers around today. However, the time has come for both entities to move in different directions. He is, and will always be our friend, and a part of our family.

Taking Jared’s place behind the kit is Richard Minino of New Mexican Disaster Squad and Gatorface. He’s also the artist behind Horsebites Design. Punknews.org spoke with Minino about his art last year.

None More Black is working on new music but are reporting that nothing new will be complete or available in the near future. The last released This Is Satire in 2006. Vincent Ford (1940-2008)

As has been widely reported, Vincent Ford – the man said to responsible for writing the Bob Marley track “No Woman, No Cry” – passed away this past week. The song appeared on Marley’s 1974 Natty Dread album and stands as one of the most recognizable tracks by the artist. The story for the song was reportedly based on the Kingston ghetto Trench Town where Marley and Ford both lived earlier in their lives.

There has been some some dispute over whether Ford actually assisted in the songwriting – with some claiming that Marley added his name to the credits to give his friend more money via the royalties. He is also credited with three tracks on the 1976 album Rastaman Vibration.

Ford passed away from complications with diabetes. He was 68.
