BBC discusses the ‘science of selling out’

BBC News Magazine has published a piece addressing the debate of “selling out” in the underground music with Iggy Pop’s recent endorsment of Swiftcover Car Insurance and Johnny Rotten’s endorsement of Country Life butter at the forefront of the discussion. Through various interviews with industry analysts and music fans alike, the article attempts to the answer the questions: “What makes us accuse our heroes of selling out? and “Why do we feel they have abused our support?”

Shane Smith rejoins SNFU, Chad Mareels out

SNFU has parted ways with with drummer Chad Mareels (Nasty On, the Black Donnellys, Dog Eat Dogma) and has re-enlisted drummer Shane Smith. Smith played with the veteran Western Canadian punk act from 2004 to 2006, and also performed with the Real McKenzies, Bif Naked and Neurosonic.

The band is headed to Europe in March and are planning to record the follow up to 2004’s In The Meantime And In Between Time.

Teenage Rehab in the studio with Joe Queer and Wimpy(Drunken Cholos/The Jabbers)

Teenage Rehab have entered the studio with Joe Queer to begin recording their upcoming full length. They band is documenting the process via their myspace page and notably, have opted to record and mix in analog rather than the more common digital format.

The album will feature special guest vocals from Wimpy Rutherford and Gail Face, as well as some other surprise visitors.

Bridge and Tunnel: “Loss Leaders”

Bridge and Tunnel Bridge and Tunnel have unveiled a new song titled “Loss Leaders.” You can stream the track at their MySpace page, or find it on their upcoming 7″ to be released this April on Yo Yo Records. The b-side of the album will feature a cover of Silent Majority‘s song “No I’m Not.”

The Huntington Station based band will hit the road soon with Mouthbreather to travel south to the Harvest Of Hope Fest. The band will later head to Europe to support their debut No Idea Records full length East/West.
