Thursday’s Geoff Rickly talks comic books

Thursday frontman Geoff Rickly sat down with Marvel to discuss how the company’s comic books influenced his songwriting, and his favorite comics/artists and more:

The thing that I love about a comic book is there’s a storyline going, there’s the thoughts going, there’s the narrator, there’s music playing on the street, there’s all these different voices going on at any one given time in a comic book-I think that’s a lot of the way the narrative is in Thursday, you know what I mean? It’s like we never write a song about religion or whatever. It’s about one person talking to another person and having a thought about religion while there’s a war going on TV.

Dillinger Escape Plan guitarist talks about upcoming album

Morris Plains, NJ’s Dillinger Escape Plan guitarist Ben Weinman recently spoke to Cameron Edney of Australia’s Inside Out magazine about the band’s plans for a new album. He commented:

Unfortunately, there’s absolutely no working titles; Greg might have some floating around but we’re still in the process of me working on the songs by myself and getting together a lot of little demos, which I haven’t even presented to the guys yet! As for the direction… so far it’s really chaotic, it’s really messed up and weird. Let’s put it this way… I’ve gotten many migraines making this stuff [laughs] I’ve turned all the lights off and put my head into the pillow a few times [laughs].

The band released Ire Works in 2007. You can read the rest of the interview here.

Sirius XM Bailed Out by DirecTV Owner

As Sirius XM teetered on the point of bankruptcy, the satellite radio firm was saved by iberty Media, who owns DirecTV. Liberty is investing $530 million in loans, $175 million of which is paying off their immediate debts.

The firm is a product of a merger of two satellite radio firms – Sirius and XM – who joined together last March. The firm then began by cutting niche programming and focusing on a more mainstream audience like the controversial replacement of punk radio with an all-AC/DC show.
