GULL (Ultra Dolphins / Snack Truck) set to release debut 7-inch

GULL, the “solo musical / visual art project” of Nate Rappole from Ultra Dolphins and Snack Truck, will release his debut 7″ on Molsook Records in late July.

The label is promising a “unique style of mixing proggy space rock and Dischord-ish punk with Eastern styled vocal chants [creating] a driving atmospheric environment that sounds like Yes, Fugazi, Rush, and the Jesus Lizard in a drunken planetarium brawl. (Or in a Looney Tunes-animated opium den, you choose.)” The 7″, recorded with Steve Roche (Neil Perry, Witch Hunt, the Saddest Landscape), will be pressed on three different color variations and include an MP3 download card. A preview is available on the label’s MySpace page.

GULL last released the Bedouin Lover demo.

A preliminary tour routing has been planned, as well.

Suburban Home Records announces 14th Anniversary Celebration

Suburban Home Records has announced the preliminary line-up and for their upcoming 14th Anniversary Celebration. The festivities will take place over the weekend of September 10th through the 13th in the label’s hometown of Denver, CO. Label head Virgil Dickerson commented:

Unlike some Anniversaries, this is not just another year. Our entire history at Suburban Home has seen its share of ups and downs. We have suffered through declining CD sales, experienced renewed interest in vinyl, and feel throughout all of this that we have been putting out the best records we have ever released. As other labels have been shutting their doors, we continue to eek by. This anniversary finds us celebrating much like I imagine a terminal patient might celebrate another birthday. Who knows how many years we have left? It’s not worth worrying about, instead we are excited to celebrate another beautiful year.

A warm up show will take place on the 10th in either Ft. Collins or Colorado Spring. The first official anniversary show will go down at Kings Tavern on the 11th, followed by a garage sale / flea market on the 12th and another show at the Kings, finally wrapping up with a BBQ and Washers Tournament at Wash Park on the 13th.

Performers confirmed include Joey Cape, Jon Snodgrass, Chad Price, Austin Lucas, Two Cow Garage, Mike Hale, Jr. Juggernaut, The Takers, and The Revenge. Bands still pending but expected to be involved include Look Mexico, Tim Barry, Drag the River, Josh Small, In The Red, Kay Kay and His Weathered Underground, and Ninja Gun among others.

Chuck Ragan’s “Glory” and “Rotterdam” streaming / Revival tour to return this fall

Chuck Ragan SideOneDummy is gearing up for the release of Chuck Ragan‘s new solo full length Gold Country on September 1st. The label now has two songs from the record online streaming, you can check out “Glory” and “Rotterdam” at the label’s website. Chuck comments in the press release:

We recorded the record at Flying Whale Studio up on this six acre mining claim called Arrowhead Mines. It’s an old local mine that was pretty well known back in the day. The record is just another page in the book and another chapter in life and it’s documenting where we are in that moment of time. Right now Gold Country is what I’ve lived for, everything I’ve worked to achieve and hold sacred and everything I strive to get home to.

SideOne has also revealed that the Revival Tour, which Ragan headlined last year with the frontmen of Avail, Against Me!, Lucero and others, will return this fall. There’s no word yet on who will perform or the routing, but the label is now calling it an annual event.
