We Came as Romans detail ‘To Plant a Seed’

Recent Equal Vision Records signing, We Came As Romans have set a release date for their debut on the label. The record is titled To Plant a Seed and is due out November 3, 2009. The band recorded with producer Joey Sturgis (The Devil Wears Prada, Emarosa, Attack Attack) at his Foundation Recording Studio and the album is the 10-song follow-up to their EP, Dreams.
Although recorded with the same producer, there is still an intentional difference between the two albums. The band aimed to achieve a more symphonic sound on To Plant A Seed. saying:

I played the trombone from Elementary school until I graduated high school and I always took the sound of a symphonic band or an orchestra with me.

The album also features art painted by acclaimed artist Paul Romano (Mastodon, Chiodos, Darkest Hour.)

David “Spoonboy” Combs (The Max Levine Ensemble)

The Max Levine EnsemblePunk rock celebrity cum radio personality Ben Weasel raised eyebrows earlier this year with an on air, ten-minute diatribe against DC area pop punk trio The Max Levine Ensemble. Now, the band has struck back with a tongue-in-cheek new “split” 7″ titled Ben Weasel out now through their website. TMLE frontman and sometime solo artist David “Spoonboy” Combs checked in recently with Punknews’ G’Ra Asim to discuss the irony of Weasel’s vehement disapproval, the emotional side to political music, and how it feels to be identified as the literal definition of folk punk. Catch Combs on his European solo tour now through October 15. More information is available at the Spoonboy website at www.iloveyouthisisarobbery.com

Black Numbers to release PJ Bond album

Black Numbers has announced plans to release the new full length from PJ Bond. Vocalist Bond was previously know as the frontman of Outsmarting Simon as well as member of Marigold, The Color Fred and Charlotte Sometimes.

The record, titled You Didn’t Know I Was Alphabetical, is due out November 10, 2009 on CD and vinyl. Black Numbers will press 300 copies of the LP (100 white, 200 blue), as well as a short run (200) of hand-screened CDs with liner notes personally written by PJ.

The label describes the album:

[Compared] to previous endeavors, Alphabetical is decidedly more organic, homespun affair – a heartfelt slice of creaky, back porch Americana tossed against a perfectly catchy pop backdrop. Still, the record has a little bit of everything, from rustic, uptempo alt-country rockers to haunting, melancholy acoustic offerings and sweetly infectious indie numbers. For fans of Rocky Votolato, Neutral Milk Hotel, Whiskeytown and Elliott Smith.

Some music is streaming on PJ’s MySpace page.
