Taking Back Sunday reforms ‘Tell All Your Friends’-era lineup

Taking Back SundayTaking Back Sunday dropped several obvious hints on Tuesday that the band would be reforming the lineup that recorded their seminal debut, 2002’s Tell All Your Friends. First came the announced departures of guitarist/vocalist Matt Fazzi and bassist/vocalist Matt Rubano, with respective statements given by each; that was coupled with this seemingly new promo photo posted by the band, likely meant as a tribute of sorts to the older promo shot you can see to the left.

The news is now confirmed via video update that guitarist/vocalist John Nolan and drummer Shaun Cooper have rejoined the band. Nolan and Cooper initially left the band in 2003 to form alternative/indie pop act Straylight Run, who themselves announced their hiatus in February.

No word on a new album from the reconfigured lineup or any first shows back, but we’ll keep you updated.

The band’s last release was 2009’s perpetually aptly titled New Again.

Sick of It All: ‘Lowest Common Denominator’

Sick Of It All have posted a stream of their track, “Lowest Common Denominator.” The song comes from their upcoming album, Based On A True Story, due out April 20, 2010 via Century Media.
Drummer Armand Majidi explained the song to Rock Sound magazine:

It seems like loudmouths get their way no matter what. Logical people can’t make their point if they can’t be heard. Nowadays, ignorance is at such a high level that people are up in arms to defend broken systems and stupid ideas. This song is about the feeling you get when you know your argument is the best but it still loses out in the end.

In related news, the band has been forced to cancel their South American tour saying this:

Sorry to all our great South American fans, but the tour we had scheduled with Terror between late July and early August is to be rescheduled to a later date, probably in 2011. Our busy fall schedule in the US and Europe is preventing us from doing it later this year. Hopefully Terror will still be available to do it with us when we get the dates locked in, but we don’t know for certain if the two band’s schedules will line up exactly. We’ll post the new dates as they’re confirmed. Please watch this space. Going to South America is always special for us and we can’t wait for the next opportunity to play for all our fans there again.

Green Day: “Last of the American Girls”

Green Day have posted the video for “Last of the American Girls” from their 2009 album, 21st Century Breakdown. The band also spoke to MTV about the follow up to the record promising a “Back to the Basics” approach. Billie Joe Armstrong said this:

We did some demos in Berlin, some in Stockholm, some just outside of Glasgow and some in Amsterdam. We wanted to get [the songs] down in some early form. It’s just been songwriting right now. Instead of doing it later on, we decided to start doing stuff now. … It’s all back to the basics again. Just getting in a room together and start jamming. We set up all of our old gear, which was like an experiment. We set up all of our equipment from 1992, and we sat in a room. We got in, and I was like, ‘Come on, guys, we’re getting back in!’ and I [start playing] and go, ‘This sounds like sh–!’ Everything sounded so bad.
