Crime in Stereo cancels shows due to emergency surgery

Crime in Stereo has been forced to cancel two shows due to “emergency oral surgery” undergone by vocalist Kristian Hallbert. The band explained:

Kristian, our singer, just got out of emergency oral surgery this afternoon and is under his surgeon’s orders not to sing (or talk) for the next few days. We hate canceling shows but have no choice but to pull out of this week’s Raleigh NC and Lancaster PA shows with Streetlight Manifesto, The Wonder Years and Dan Potthast. We’re super bummed about this but Kristian has to heal so he can be in shape to perform this Friday + Sunday in NYC and this Saturday in Poughkeepsie with these bands. Our deepest apologies to our friends in Raleigh and Lancaster

The band is supporting their latest album, I Was Trying to Describe You to Someone.

Interestingly, one of Superchunk’s tracks is among the AV Club’s selections to be covered. The band is gearing up for the release of a new album, Majesty Shredding on September 14th.

Chris Shiflett talks new Foo Fighters album

Chris Shiflett of the Foo Fighters spoke to Spinner about his new project, Chris Shiflett & The Dead Peasants as well as what is next for the Foos.

It’s a little too early to know exactly. We’ve just been learning songs and making some demos. Pretty much everything we’ve learned so far has been pretty upbeat and rocking and I think it sounds pretty good. I’ve read that Dave (Grohl) said It’s gonna be the heaviest Foo Fighters record ever and I think it’ll definitely be a lot more rocking than the last couple. Butch Vig (who produced Nirvana’s ‘Nevermind’) is gonna produce the record. Dave built a studio at his house and we’ll be recording it there. I believe the tracking room is in fact his garage! I should probably sell it as going back to basics. The truth is it’s gonna be a world class studio. We’ll have a bunch of good gear. But we’ll definitely be going back to basics.

The Foo Fighters last released Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace in 2007.

Fletcher Dragge discusses new Pennywise album

In a Broward-Palm Beach New Times interview, Pennywise guitarist Feltcher Dragge discussed the new album, their latest lineup change, and their future. Asked if the band has already finished writing new songs and been recording them, Fletcher replied:

We actually just keep writing. We write all the way until we get in the studio, ’cause you never know when you’re gonna come up with a song. We’ve come up with songs the day before we walk into the studio that end up being title tracks on the record. But there are a lot of bands that just pick like 10 songs or 12 songs, and they keep on working on them and working on them until they get good enough to put on the albums, but we just keep writing and writing. Probably at this point we have about 40 or 50 songs. Yeah, it’s crazy. We just get a verse and a chorus together, basically, and if that passes the test, then we build a branch and an alto and throw in all that stuff. So then we do like half the song, and if we like it, we’ll keep working on it. We have lots to choose from that way. We’re constantly trying to better what we already have.”

The new record will be the follow up to 2008’s MySpace Records release, Reason to Believe and will mark the debut of Ignite‘s Zoli Teglas on vocals who replaces longtime singer Jim Lindberg, who left the band last year and is now in The Black Pacific.

Todd Sampson of M.I.A. (1964-2010)

Todd Sampson, who helped found MIA in 1980, has passed away reports Las Vegas Weekly. He died early Sunday morning at age 46 after being helped offstage toward the end of an M.I.A. show at the Black Door. The cause is unknown. His close friend Rob Ruckus described the sad incident:

He just started going down during the show. Backstage afterwards, he was totally burning up, kinda going out of it. We tried putting ice on his head, cooling him down with water … we loaded him into the truck and got his breathing slowed down; he actually walked into his house on his own. But he started heating up again, and then he started hyperventilating, so we raced him to the hospital as fast as we could, but he stopped breathing on the way. When we got to the hospital there was no heartbeat.

Sampson was the original vocalist of the band until they moved from Las Vegas to Newport Beach, California when he was replaced by late bassist Mike Conley. He went on to form Self Abuse in 1981 and Samsons Army, in 1984. After Conley passed away in 2008, Sampson rejoined MIA.

Our deepest condolences go out to his family and friends.
