OFF!Vice has inked OFF!, the new project featuring Keith Morris (Circle Jerks/Black Flag), Mario Rubalcaba (Earthless/Hot Snakes/Rocket from the Crypt), Dimitri Coats (Burning Brides) and Steven McDonald (Redd Kross).

The band will make their musical debut this coming fall with a quartet of EPs that will span 16 songs total. The four-minute, aptly titled 1st EP will be issued as a limited edition 7″ on October 12 with artwork and a poster by Raymond Pettibon, who was responsible for Black Flag’s overall visual aesthetic. Vice is promising “paint stripping intensity at ferocious tempos tempered with an ear for melody and structure.”

The entire series will eventually be issued as a collection titled First Four EPs (sound familiar?) on November 23 as a four-7″ EP box set, with each EP in the box featuring its own Pettibon sleeve art.

The band will also be playing several fests in the coming months: FYF Fest, September 4 in Los Angeles; Riot Fest, October 9 in Chicago; and Fun Fun Fun Fest, November 7 in Austin.

Derf Scratch (Fear)

Original Fear bassist Derf Scratch passed away on July 28th after a prolonged illness. Born Frederick Milner, Scratch played with the controversial Los Angeles punk act since the band’s formation in 1977. He was a friend of the late John Belushi, a friendship that led to Fear’s infamous appearance on Saturday Night Live. Scratch also appeared with Fear in the film The Decline of Western Civilization.

Our condolences go out to Scratch’s friends, family and fans.
