Be Your Own Pet talk new album, set release date

Be Your Own Pet recently spoke to Rolling Stone about their forthcoming sophomore album. The record is titled Get Awkward and is due out March 18, 2008.

Frontwoman Jemina Pearl said:

“I was trying not to think about, ‘ohh second album, better not suck,’ ll of us just tried to concentrate on writing better songs. We went into the studio more ready and willing to work really hard and try different things.

According to the story, the band toys with more influences, adding surf-rock and classic girl-group sounds to their garage punk sound. The album was also influenced by a number of films including Robocop, Return of the Living Dead, Beyond the Valley of the Dolls.

The band’s previous album, Be Your Own Pet, was rated among the best of 2006 by Punknews.org.
