EA announce next Battlefield 1942 Patch 1.5

EA/Dice has an updated on the next patch (v1.5) for Battlefield 1942. The major item include a fix for the CD swapping. I am glad they are addressing the problem introduced in the 1.45 patch. I have been unable to play the Road To Rome Expansion since they started this crap. There is no release date listed at this time.

Is downloading copyright music equal to stealing?

There is a great debate on the PBS (GASP!) website on whether downloading music from the Internet is actually stealing. The questions were possed by readers of Slashdot. Representing the side that this aurthor falls on is Lawrence Lessig from Stanford Law School. Representing the RIAA is one of their lawyers, Matt Oppenheim. When you read the article, pay attention to the questions and the answers. I wonder if you get the same creepy feeling that I do when you read Matts responses that he is somehow avoiding actually answering the question in only the way a lawyer can do? Tell us what you think when you are done reading it.

Eve of Destruction released

If you are like me, you can not wait to get Eve of Destruction, a new mod for Battlefield 1942. Lets face it, Desert Combat is getting old and we want something new to play. Now is our chance.

I tried to put together a list of places to download the update, but every link I tried was disconnected. Even the main EoD site on BF Central is down (As is BFCentral.com). Guess this one took them by suprise.

As I write this, I am waiting 10 more minutes to download it from Fileplanet (Part of Gamespy and you must register). I am not a big fan of Fileplanet, but it was my last choice. My suggestion for you is to do the same and either suck up the wait time or pay for the no-wait premium service because it doesnt look like anyone else was ready for the EoD download onslaught!

Hope to see you soon on an EoD server near you….

EA announces patch 1.4 for Battlefield 1942

EA has an announcement on their website concerning the next patch, version 1.4. They did not provide a release date, but it does provide some good information on the patch. They also provide info on a new weapon for the next EA/DICE Mod.

This mod will prevent cheating, but it has the side effect of stopping all client side modifications. This will hurt many mod groups who are not designing their mod as a server side modification. The biggest one that comes to mind is Merciless Creations. They have done an incredible job changing the game to look better, but it is client side modifications.

For the record, I do not use this mod because I do not like the idea of having a different looking screen than the people I am playing against. With that said, I would download Merciless Creations in a heartbeat if it was server side. It really is a great work of art and I hope they continue to show support through a server side mod.

You can get more info on the Merciless Creations website. You can read EAs article by clicking Read More. Continue reading EA announces patch 1.4 for Battlefield 1942

Vietnam, the next Battlefield

According to this story on Gamespys PlanetBattlefield, Digital Illusions, the developers of Battlefield 1942 registered Battlefield Vietnam on February 12th, 2003.

I would also like to spotlight a great looking BF1942 mod currently under development called Eve of Destruction, The Indochina Vietnam Conflict (Whew!). I have only seen screenshots posted on their website, but I cant wait to get my hands on the game. They have some incredible custom terrain modeled, as well as great looking soldiers. You need to keep your eye out for this one, even if Dice decides to make their own Vietnam Battlefield.

Oh yea, check out their website.

EA Announces Battlefield 1942: Secret Weapons of WWII

Ok, it is for real this time around. Yahoo Finance posted the full press release on the next expansion from EA/DICE for Battlefield 1942. This time around, we will see the addition of 16 more vehicles and 2 new classes. The expansion will also include objective based maps, including The Eagles Nest. While some of the vehicles do not sound too intriquing to this writer, the new classes and maps sound great.

Just to make life easier, we have the full press release for your reading enjoyment. Just click Read More for the full scoop. Once you are done reading it, feel free to post your thoughts and comments on the new weapons, classes and maps. Continue reading EA Announces Battlefield 1942: Secret Weapons of WWII

EA/DICE offers Bonus Map

This time around, I am not going to get as excited as I did about Coral Sea. From what I have read, the new mapped called Operation Aberdeen, is another Coral Sea, but with Tanks instead of planes. I will keep an open mind about it, but I think EA/DICE is playing with us. Rather than releasing crappy maps, why dont they release the Developers Tools. The MOD groups have done an incredible job, but it would be so much easier if they had decent tools to work with. Oh well, Im addicted to the game, so I guess I will stop complaining and go frag someone….. Get the Full scoop from EA by clicking the Read More link.

Battlefield 1942 Patch v1.3

New patch 1.3 is out! Get it here! Read More for the full press release…..

We would like to say a special thanks to Nvidia for putting the patch on their servers. It is nice to be able to download something as simple as a patch without having to register via email, then wait in line for an hour. For the record, my last 5 cards have been Nvidia and I am glad to see them give something back.

Join the Gamers Radio Battalion every Friday night on the Nvidia servers. More than likely, you will find us in Battle of The Bulge or Market Garden. Gotta run, the patch just finished D/Ling in less than 2 minutes from Nvidia. Time to play! Woohoo! Continue reading Battlefield 1942 Patch v1.3

Coral Sea Blows!

If you read my previous post, you know how excited I was to get another map for Battlefield 1942. After playing it, I can honestly say it sucks! They put two aircraft carriers on opposite ends of a few scattered islands and cranked up the plane respawn rate. Even then, a few good pilots can supress the other teams planes very easily. There are no flags on the map. Come on DICE! Coral Sea is pathetic. Can you release a good map for free? I mean, we are already planning on buying The Road To Rome. The least you could do was not put out trash between now and then.

EA Games releases new map, Coral Sea for Battlefield 1942

Ok, so it is really early Christmas morning and I had to drop my loved one off at work way too early. I decided what better way to spend Christmas, than mowing down other poor smucks who have nothing better to do on Christmas, than play violent online games (SIC). Did I mention Im dog ass tired?!? But, like my childhood, I just cant seem to go back to sleep. It is Christmas after all.

So, here I am refreshing the Nvidia servers, when I see two of the servers playing a new map? Huh?!? I have not heard anything about a new map being released. Well, I guess the guys over at BF1942 decided to give a Christmas present. My download is done and Coral Sea is installed. You can get your own copy on the official Battlefield 1942 webpage and Ill frag you later, err see you later on the Nvidia servers.

BTW, Merry Christmas and a Fraggy New Year!

Battlefied 1942 1.2 Patch Released

EA announced the latest patch for Battlefield 1942. They addressed a lot of issues, including a few of the cheats. The bad news is they only addressed the cheats that made the game too difficult to play. They failed to address the two biggest cheats. I hope they get something out soon, because I find myself questioning when someone kills me from half way across the map or if they seem to reload too fast. IMHO, this could ruin a great game.
