Custom Objects for Battlefield Custom Maps

Saw this on Planet Battlefield this morning….

A person named “Smig” has a number of custom made ojects and strutures for anyone doing mapping in the Battlefield Series, including Battlefield 2. All he asks is that you give credit to him if you use any of them in a map. Sounds like a good deal to me as these look to be impressively done.

BF2 Community Update from EA & Rant from Sarge

A community update came out yesterday discussing the ranked vs. unranked server “issue” that has been being debated by the community for some time.

This is part of what was said about the “Ranked Servers”

“Ranked servers will be where the hardcore bump heads and clash knives. All Ranked Servers will be configured to provide the definitive competitive Battlefield experience.”

“Ranked servers will be heavily administrated and have Punkbuster on. The integrity of the stats system is of paramount importance to EA (and of course to those participating in it) and so we will be monitoring things constantly. At the end of the day, Ranked servers will be a safe, regulated environment on which the most competitive players will be spending their time. If this environment doesn’t sound right for you, that’s great. That’s what Unranked servers are for.”

This is what EA had to say about unranked servers and where the article gets interesting:

Forgotten Hope Announces Move to BF2 Engine

In an update to the short interview that we did with the Forgotten Hope Mod team back in April, they made a big announcement today:

Flying in to the United Kingdom, Armin Ace visited an EA development studio together with several members from other mod teams for a two-day trip full of information, presentations and experiences. Right afterwards, many made a stop at Berlin to join the EA Community Event. News posters from the most known German community pages and developers from all sorts of mods reported in, as did our own news poster BUG$.

Battlefield 2 was no longer an unknown with only rumours and speculation to go on. Battlefield 2 became something tangible as we played the game and used the editor that will be at our disposal once the game is out. Finally we had a chance to see what BF2 is capable of, what it looks like, what it feels like, what tools we can use for modding. Finally we were able to compare BF1942 with BF2 and make an informed decision about porting the mod to the new engine. After this there is no longer a crossroad. The path has turned into a straight highway with only one direction to go: Battlefield 2

Its Now Official: EA owns DICE

A nail in DICEs coffin or new era of great games?

BF2 Demo and Release Date

Straight from -1313-Evil_Homer from Planet Battlefield:

“The demo release for Battlefield 2 will be in Mid-June it will feature one map. This was said from the executive producers Scott Evans during community day at EARS. So look forward in June for the demo. While I write this newspost I am currently alt-tabbed out of Battlefield 2 game, and all I can say in short words is Game of the year. So look forward for a report sometime this week. Bye for now from EARS.”

**”Note: Official Release Date for Battlefield 2: June 23, 2005 (Ship Date: June 22). This date will be earlier for Europeans, its estimated it will be June 17, 2005.”

Need I say more?

I just wonder how I can justify buying my wife BF2 for her Birthday 🙂

DICE Announces New FPS

Today, DICE released this Press Release announcing a new First Person Shooter based on their Brand.

Interestingly enough, the game is being developed by DICE Canada, the same folks that brought us Battlefield Vietnam. Even more interesting, this new game is due in the Fall of this year. The short development time leads me to believe this will be an expansion for Battlefield 2 and not a new full blown game. Maybe a port of BF42 to the new engine? 🙂

In other Battlefield 2 news, it is being reported in a recent interview that DICE will indeed support Linux servers. Still no change on only Official EA servers supporting the ranking system.

Impressed By EA Support of Battlefield 2 Mods

I cant go into details, but I have been priveleged to 3 seperate private emails to certain mod groups from EA about BF2 modding.

And I must say that I am completely impressed. I am not a modder and I dont understand everything EA has done, but I see a genuine effort on their part. Its not often I give kudos to EA, but this time around they get a big 10-4 good buddy! Keep up the great work and we as gaming fans shall reward you with piles of gold or at least greenbacks when BF2 is released……

Looking For Battlefield 2 Maps?

The release of Battlefield 2 is just around the corner. While surfing around, I stumbled across the names a bunch of Battlefield 2 maps. I do not know for sure if these will be in the final release, but they were used in testing.

Daqing Oilfields
Dalian Plant
Dragon Valley
Fushe Pass
Gulf of Oman
Kubra Dam
Mashtuur City
Operation Clean Sweep
Sharqi Peninsula
Songhua Stalemate
Strike at Karkand
Zatar Wetlands

BF2 Jungle Screenshots

EA released 10 screenshots from a Jungle map named Songhua. I am glad to hear we are going to get more than Desert maps. All that brown gets boring after a while and it is so much more fun to hide in the deep brush, than to stand out in the middle of a desert. 🙂

All I can say about these pics is WOW! I am really, really impressed at how great the jungle looks. And look at that temple. Amazing!

New BF2 Screenshots

These screenshots come to us via the EA Spain BF website. I would like to point out they do not look anything like the previous screenshots we have seen from the game. If you ask me, they are not near as polished as what we have seen before. Is this closer to what we can expect from BF2?

What do you think?
