Friday Night Fights – Custom Map Night

Its that time again boys and girls. We are breaking out the custom maps and this time around, it is our First ever Battlefield Vietnam Custom Map Night. This Friday Night, May 28th, starting at 8pm EST, 7pm CST, 6pm MST, 5pm PST will be 6 custom maps for BFV. We will play into the early hours of the morning, so drop by any time.

The Line Up!

GRB No Remorse
GRB No Rest for the Wicked
Doing The Village
Hill Nine Three Seven
Lao Thu Isle
The Junglehunt

For you fans of 304 Fields of the Fallen and 304 House of Hellsing, you better be there because the first two are incredible work from none other than GRB’s LoU-Cipher and GreatXScott with testing done by all of us in the Gamers Radio Battalion. You expect quality custom maps from us and you are going to get it. These maps have Custom Load Screens, Custom Insignias, some of the bluest water this side of FarCry and get this…… We have an underwater Tunnel System. Thats right, its cheesy, but its cool. The entrance is hidden well, so you better ask a GRB how to get into it. As a tease, we are working on at least 6 more maps, including 2 vanilla BF42 inspired maps, a remake of our own Ghost Front from BF42 and some of the sickest mapping ever seen for Battlefield Vietnam!

We are working on the single custom installer right now. As soon as it is ready, we will post it in the download section. See you Friday night!

Quang Tri Hanoi Jane Speech

I saw this on the PlanetBattlefield.com forums. It is one of the funniest things I have seen in a while, and I wanted to make sure everyone saw it.

(SAQ)Arcand wrote it based on the GI-Jane speech in game:

Gamer, buggy code falls from the sky like broken birds
They do not want to spend money testing your system specs at their company, gamer.
They come to bomb your system.

Gamer, EA has abandoned you.
They have ordered you to be a beta tester
Do not trust them

Defect, gamer
It is a very good idea to leave a sinking ship.

They lie to you, gamer.
You know you cannot fix this game.
EA grows richer while you optimise your system, gamer.
They will give you a patch but only after you are dead.

EA lies to you every day, poor gamer.
You have lost this war, gamer.
EA will leave you behind.

EA marketing makes you buy this game, gamer.
They do not care about you.

Gamer, EA has betrayed you.
They will not return with a patch for you.

Gamer, the buggy code bombs your system.
You are not safe playing.
The game code is dangerous, gamer.
It will crash tonight.

The developers do not care that you are crashing, gamer.
You cannot use firewalls to hide behind, gamer.
Their buggy code will find you.

Battlefield Vietnam Review

Ok, I was slacking a bit, but here is a BF42 fans review of Battlefield Vietnam.

Ever since I heard a rumor about EA registering the name Battlefield Vietnam with the trademark office, I have been intrigued by the prospect of a new game based on similar mechanics as Battlefield 1942, but in a Vietnam setting. As my imagination took hold, I dreamt of what I thought the game would be like. Sure, I loved playing BF42 and Eve of Destruction was my personal favorite mod for Battlefield, but we all know no matter how good a mod is, the pro’s usually seem to due them one better.

Official Map Review Section

As you know, we at Gamers Radio are big fans of custom maps for BF42 and BFV. In the past, we have been doing informal reviews of maps and posting them in the news section.

Thanks to Sarges hard work, we have formalized our review process and started a new section, dedicated to our reviews of custom maps. If you look over on the left side, under Features, you will see a link to Map Reviews. This index will allow you to quickly find the ratings on specific maps and link to the actual review. We have a fairly good backlog of BF42 maps that we need to go through and update for the new requirements, but for now, look forward to a lot of BFV map reviews including our first official BFV review of Valley Assault. We are even considering reviewing FarCry maps, so keep an eye here for future updates.

Battlefield Vietnam tops Unreal Tournament 2004 and FarCry

The sales figures are starting to come out from NPD Techworld for Top selling computer games. These figures are from March 21-27, 2004. Since BFV, UT2004 and FC were not released until April, we will assume this is the preorder sales figures. Even with more than a Million downloads of the UT2004 demo, Battlefield Vietnam started out on top. I bought BFV as a preorder, then I bought UT2004 and FarCry in the following weeks after they were released. It will be interesting to see if BFV maintains this position in the upcoming weeks.

1. Battlefield Vietnam
2. Unreal Tournament 2004
3. Counter Strike: Condition Zero
4. Far Cry
5. The Sims Deluxe
6. MS Zoo Tycoon: Complete Collection
7. MS Age Of Mythology
8. Tom Clancys Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow
9. Call Of Duty
10. MVP Baseball 2004

Battlefield Vietnam Update

EA and Dice are making it a point to tell everything thank you and that they are working on getting BFV to where everyone wants it.

Quote from EA:
“For those of you familiar with Battlefield 1942, youre already aware of the level of support you can expect from the Battlefield team. Battlefield Vietnam is no exception. In the next few months you can expect to see updates which add new features, incorporate community requests and add new content. Were currently working on an update which will incorporate some of your suggestions such as tweaking the M60/LAW combo as well as addressing performance issues experienced by some people. Stay tuned for more information on this in the upcoming weeks.”

EoD Update

The creators of Eve of Destruction announced today that they are porting their popular MOD to the new Battlefield Vietnam engine.

Check out their forums for some really good screen shots:

They plan on keeping both a BF1942 and BFV version so that people who cant play BFV for whatever reason will still be able to enjoy the mod.
