Video Games Show
Written by Atomm
Monday, 29 November 2004
Hello boys and girls! Its that special time in our lives when we get to welcome a new gaming platform to the fold. What am I talking about you ask. Well, Im talking about the release of the Nintendo DS! Were dedicating this show to what some say will be one of the best portables of all time. Of corse, were still going to inform you about the other major news thats come out the past week as well as entertain you with our off-the-wall discussions.

We start the show off by comparing the DS to some of the other big xmas items of the past. Moving on from there, we get to the news about Half-Life 2 and Gran Turismo 4. Have you heard about the trouble between EA and some of their employees? If not, then youll definitely want to listen to the debate Hoss and Rich have about this somewhat peculiar issue.

After the guys get through discussing the situation at EA, well get to the heart of this weeks show, the Nintendo DS. Segment two starts off with a little history lesson into the world of Nintendo. After our lesson, the guys will tell us what some of the specs and capabilities of the DS are. Well also go through a list of games that you can pickup at the time of the DSs release as well as a couple to come out in the future. After the roll-call of games, well end the segment as Rich tells us about his experience with the demo of Metroid Prime: Hunters.

Now that weve gotten through the bulk of the show, its time to get to the Reviews Of The Week. This week, Hoss tells us about his all-time favorite game character, Kirby, as he reviews Kirby & The Amazing Mirror. Well follow that up with a live in-show review of Are You All That, a DVD interactive game. This weeks jam packed show ends with a bang as we read and answer your emails. Dont miss out on the info and fun!

Showtimes for the Video Games Show on our Gamers Radio Station:
Tuesday: 9pm CST

Next week, we will expand our presentation of the Video Games Show to the following:
Saturday: 1pm CST and 9pm CST
Tuesday: 9pm CST

Plenty of opportunities to check out this great program on Console and Handheld gaming! Dont miss out!

When open source and music merge. PDF Print E-mail

Many people know me as a HUGE Linux and open source nut. I am even fanatical at times due to the importance I see in where open source can take us as a whole.

Well, I received an email today that contained an article on RedHat’s website. This article is, in my opinion, one of the best articles to speak on open source and music.

Read it! It is worth it.

“The irony of popular music is that many of the great songs are about challenging the status quo. About sticking it to The Man and annoying the hell out of your parents. Yet much of the mainstream music we hear today is homogenized and shamelessly formulaic.”

Pitchfork reports: Our favorite alternatively rocking space-age bachelors (and bachelorettes, right) are preparing to catch thee up with their many EPs, singles and other stray tracks-- Switched On-style.

Now, its been about nine years since the last Switched On comp, so theres quite a collection of ephemera to wade through-- and it would appear their newest collection is designed with the completist in mind. According to a post on the bands website, next spring will see the release of a giant 3xCD compilation stretching back to the 18-minute majesty of "Jenny Ondioline", which was first released in 1993. The set, tentatively slated for mid-April, is being mastered in a few weeks, at which point the final running order (and presumably, the title) will be fixed. [see full story for more]

How Stupid Can You Be
Written by Atomm
Tuesday, 26 October 2004
liveDaily reports: [A bit of a follow up to the story in yesterdays Day in Rock about Ashlee Simpsons lip sync adventure on SNL.] In a Monday (10/25) interview on New York City radio station Z100 FM, Joe Simpson, Ashlees father and manager, said that he convinced Ashlee to use backing tracks when acid reflux caused her vocal cords to swell.

"[Ashlee] sang in the rehearsal--theres a full rehearsal right before the show, which is with a live audience--and by the end of that time she was so scratchy and her throat was hurting her so bad she started crying," Joe Simpson said. "We called ... her doctor in L.A.; he said, Dont let her sing. I said, Theres no way I can not let her sing--weve got to sing the show.

"So we made the decision to pull up backing tracks to help her push through the song, because otherwise she wouldve sounded just like a frog--and no one wants to hear a frog on Saturday Night Live unless its a skit." [see full story for more]
