Former punk turned Canadian legislator fights for Net Neutrality

Charlie Angus, formerly of Canadian punk act L’Etranger and alt-country outfit Grevious Angels has become an MP representing Timmins-James Bay for the left-wing New Democratic Party in Canada. In that capacity he is leading the charge for Net Neutrality in Canada. (For those unfamiliar with the issue, please check out this “news” report.)

Angus wants Parliament to debate the topic, and his brief bill amends Canada’s Telecommunications Act to prohibit various forms of discrimination. Unlike the United States, Canadian ISPs like Bell Canada have already begin throttling competing services when they introduced their own video store.
