This week we were shocked to learn of legislation pending in Russia to crack down on “dangerous youth trends,” in particular emo and goth. The Sex Pistols‘ John Lydon and Bloc Party‘s Kele Okerke traded conflicting versions of a back stage scuffle that saw Okerke assulted and Lydon accused of racism. We had troubling rumors regarding the health of Chiodos frontman Craig Owens. Christian metalcore act Haste The Day gave guitarist Jason Barnes the boot when his religious beliefs fell out of synch with the bands’. Facing New York had some creative methods for battling high gas prices. Music legend Neil Young spoke out against the loss of fieldity and sound quality in the digital world.
Fat Wreck Chords has detailed the Star Fucking Hipsters‘ debut Until We’re Dead. Nitro has plans to reissue Jughead’s Revenge catalog through iTunes. We had tour dates from NOFX, Dillinger Four and the The Flatliners (Canada), Street Dogs, Time Again and Flatfoot 56 (USA) and the Phenomenauts (USA). Show announcements came through from the Bouncing Souls (dates), and Hot Water Music (dates) as well. Anti-Flag is letting fans choose their set at Reading & Leeds, while the Pop Montreal festival will feature Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds and Wire. A video arrived for the Gaslight Anthem‘s “The ’59 Sound” and Underoath previewed the track “Desperate Times, Desperate Measures.”
